Towering trees with massive trunks cast dim lighting on the earth below, causing only splotches of sunlight too peek through with a kaleidoscope effect. Light snowfall floats gently to the ground, just beginning to accumulate over the decayed grass and plant life covering the forest floor. A crisp breeze whispers through branches, bringing along with it the distant scent of coursing water to the west. Toward the southern and eastern edges of the forest, the trees become sparser, and more distance opens up between them.∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

| Eden drew in a deep, steadying breath. The chilly winter air struck her lungs with a sting, but she reveled in anything that would take her mind off what she had just stumbled upon. As the wolf exhaled, her shaky breath wisped into a cloud before dispersing into the thin air. She fought to ground her raging emotions, focusing on the pressure of her slight paws that connected her to the earth.
Only three full moons ago, the slight female had wandered into these lands and promptly decided that they would be her home, if only temporarily. Surprisingly, they had not been claimed by another pack, and held beautiful hidden treasures within them. The forest itself was thick, offering protection within it's depths. The soil was rich and dark, providing adequate nourishment for the bountiful plant life. In turn, all manner of small prey had settled happily within. There were also abundant herds of elk that inhabited nearby grasslands, and natural barriers were formed by the mountains to the north and the swift river to the west. The fae had spent her time there thus far familiarizing herself with every hillside, path, and tree; very little escaped her sharp, golden gaze. She knew that she would be able to escape danger if it came lurking near.
And she was afraid that it had.
"Wolves." She thought worriedly to herself, inhaling the lingering scents once more. Eden had been out on a routine patrol when she found evidence that others were nearby. There were strange wolves within the borders of her self-proclaimed home, and that could only mean one thing.
"Danger is coming." She stated quietly to herself.
The wolf's shimmering grey coat give a shiver, though it had nothing to do with the cold temperatures the shadows cast beneath the forest canopy. Eden knew that she would have to do her best to find the intruders before they found her; the wolves could be traveling together, which would quickly set the odds against her.
Setting her mind to the task, she quickly regained full control by pushing her emotions behind her wall once more. A slight, quiet growl escaped her maw as she took off in search of the source of the scents. Her lithe body weaved between trees and fallen branches with ease, and her paws gave only slight thuds when hitting the ground. The golden amber of her gaze was set in front of her in determination.
"No one is taking my home."

| Beneath the shadows of the towering trees, the young lupine felt at home. In deep forests with thick vegetation, it was easiest for him to stay hidden. Though, something wasn't right... the scent of other wolves nearby made him weary.
"great" the male huffed sarcastically. "Seems I can't escape them."
He associated the presence of other wolves with almost certain trouble. If there was one thing he could use to his advantage, however, it was his ability to stay hidden.
Using his sensitive sense of smell, he estimated the others wolves approximate locations. Making sure to keep his distance he would travel accordingly. He would quickly head north of the other wolves since that was the direction the wind was currently blowing. This way, the breeze would blow their scents towards him so he could keep note of their distance. Additionally, it would blow his scent farther north making it harder for the other wolves to detect him.
He made sure to stay beneath the shadows, using his dark coat color to his advantage. He lightly padded on his feet with the intent to get out as quickly as he could, though, there was someone blocking his path. He stopped short, not wanting to get any closer to the stranger.
Their scent was strong which meant they were close and they could probably smell him as well. Nerves began to take over, he hadn't had great experiences with others of his kind prior. He decided to stay still, sheltered by thicket and brush.

| Soumraku inhaled deeply, eyes closing for a few moments. The long-legged male's exhaling sigh sent out a pale cloud that rose in the cold air before dispersing into small trails, eventually disappearing altogether. When he opened his eyes again, a chill swept through his body, reminding him of the temperature. He grunted in annoyance--cold was not something he enjoyed.
Shaking his head, he tried to push away the nagging feeling the shiver left behind, focusing instead on the forest around him. He'd been here less than a full two hours, he reminded himself. Maybe it wasn't always so chilly. If he was lucky, he would be able to stay here a few days before continuing on his seemingly endless travels. Instinct overtaking him, he began walking forward, darting into the deep shadows the bare trees offered. Toes spreading wider as he kept moving, weaving through the trees and foliage, his nostrils twitched. The wind brought hints of other wolves, and he hesitated, suddenly remembering in full detail his little sister.
"Ne," he told himself, pushing forward once more. "To nejsou stejní vlci. The scents don't match." He paused, ears twitching. "Perhaps I can avoid them. They'll never know I am here." Satisfied with his plan, his wariness faded, if only slightly. He wouldn't let his entire guard down, he decided, but he didn't need to constantly worry about running into the canids that he could smell.

| The she wolf ran onward through the forest of browns and yellows, becoming only a silver streak among the bleak winter landscape. Every so often she would pause momentarily to deeply inhale the smells in the surrounding area in order to reassure herself that she was still following the correct scent trails.
"I must seek these strangers quickly and see them on their way before trouble comes of their presence." Eden internalized worriedly.
Another tense span of minutes passed by, and the long-legged female was becoming more restless with every step. Although, she felt reassured by the fact that every movement she made to the south brought her further away from the hidden location of the den she called home. She hoped that no other had stumbled upon it while trekking through the territory.
After loping through the woods for a few minutes longer, the fae began to feel uneasy. Eden's ears perked and her eyes swiveled around as she quickly slowed her pace to a halt, the strong scent of another wolf filling her nose. It was not a sound or movement that alerted her to the presence of another, but she could sense that someone was nearby. Whether or not the stranger came with peaceful or malicious intent, it was clear that they knew how to remain hidden. She fought to catch her breath, her sides heaving from the long-distance sprint.
"Who goes there? State your business here." Eden called, her clear voice ringing loudly. She forced herself to become a mask of calm, pushing down the uncertainty and fear that fought to strangle her senses. Muzzle lifted proudly, the wolf waited for a response.

| Soumraku stopped short, ears pushing forward and nose tilting upward. One of the wolves' scent was beginning to fan out along a trail that seemed to be getting nearer to him. Hackles rising and fur bristling in alarm, he backed up deeper into the shadows, grateful for the heavy foliage and large trees.
After a few minutes, Soumraku could tell the wolf was getting ever closer, but he couldn't tell if they were heading straight for him. "Perhaps," he whispered to himself, making sure the volume of his voice was not loud enough to alert others of his position, "Budu moci odtud odtud utéct. If they aren't heading purposely to me, then I suppose I should be able to leave without being found." His head bobbed. As he began to turn, though, a loud voice from not so far away caused him to startle, biting his tongue so he wouldn't call out in surprise.
The words flowed meaninglessly through his ears, and he had to take a moment to remember them and what they meant. A distant thought of 'Angličtina je takový podivný jazyk' fleeted around his head before he refocused on what had been spoken.
He remained silent for several seconds, contemplating on whether he should respond or not. Tying his thoughts into their English meanings, he finally managed a small response, avoiding the voice's order. "Hello?" He almost immediately regretted answering, but once his voice rang out there was no taking it back. In a short moment of frustration, he muttered, "Pokud je tento vlk jako ti, kteří zabili Křepelka, skončím mrtvým…"

| Though he knew she was coming, the nameless male was startled by the volume of the females voice. By the way she spoke, he assumed she was from a pack who had claimed home to these woods. Her tone also allowed him to assume she probably held a dominant position within that pack. The presence of a pack surprised him however, he hadn't smelled any territory markings, or else he would have known to stay away.
He remained silent for some time, still crouching low beneath the plants to prevent him from being seen. Keeping this position was starting to get uncomfortable, not to mention the brambles poking at him. Luckily the coat was thick enough the prevent most of them from making contact with his skin. No matter how uncomfortable though, he would stay in this position as long as he had to.
Soon he heard another voice from off in the distance shout a greeting. He was unsure if this was a wolf from the same pack as the female, which made him even more nervous. The last thing he wanted to do was try to take on 2 wolves, but he was cornered now. Maybe... if he let them know he wasn't here to cause any harm they would let him leave safely.
Staying hidden beneath the brush, he called out with hesitance "I am just passing through." he kept his eyes locked on the female, so he was aware of the distance there was between them. Not much, but enough that she hopefully hadn't spotted him.
"I will leave if you allow me to exit" he added, hoping the wolves would let him through without a problem.

| Eden stiffened at the low sound of a male voice coming from her left side. She couldn't make out what had been said, but she moved cautiously toward the sound before hearing an additional uneasy greeting. After a few steps, she was able to make out the form of a thin, lithe wolf. His dusky brown coat meddled with the shadows, and the darker coloring on his face resembled a mask. Altogether, the brute appeared quite mysterious. His bright yellow eyes studied her, waiting for a response.
"Greetings." Eden replied, her movements and countenance guarded. "What brings you to these lands? Do you mean harm?" She added.
Suddenly, the female heard an additional voice from behind her. She quickly shifted her body so that her back was not to the newcomer.
"I am just passing through. I will leave if you allow me to exit" The low sound called after a brief pause.
Eden tried to locate the source of the voice, to no avail. The male was well hidden even at the short distance between them. She kept her long legs locked in place and her muzzle held high, determined to show no weakness.
"I wonder if they believe me to be a part of a larger pack." The thought flitted briefly across her mind, before she forced herself to regain focus.
"Please step into the open; I do not plan to keep you here." She stated in the general direction of the hidden wolf. "Nor do I plan to cause either of you harm." She added, giving a meaningful look to the male wolf she could see. "What are your names? Do either of you belong to larger packs?" Eden inquired, a slight edge forming in her tone.

| Delphinia, a light brown furred wolf, opens her eyes, starting to wake up with a start. She holds her head up, and takes a deep inhale of the crisp morning scent. She steretches every inch of her body and shakes the snow off of her fur. She looks around and sees a mouse, the first animal Delphinia ever successfully hunted, right before her pack was killed by those vicious humans. What did they want from us? Why did they kill the pack? What did we ever do to them? " If I ever see a human again, i'm NOT letting them get away. They're just selfish, foolish killers," she growls. "Who cares WHO they are." Delphinia sighs, "I just want the pack to still be alive." | |

| The nameless male was hesitant, but in the end, decided to move from his hiding place out into the open. He still made sure to keep a safe distance from the strangers, however. By the way the female spoke it sounded as if the other wolf was not from her pack, and was a stranger to these woods as well.
46 stood still, his gaze locked on the two strangers. He was ready to run away if either were to give chase. "My name...? the male was hesitant to answer the females question. "Well I..." he studdered. He had no idea that most packs didn't work the same way as his birth pack did, and assumed all pups were put through a trial to earn their names. He wasn't about to let these wolves know he had failed his.
"My name is Noctis" he quickly lied before swallowing. It was a name he had heard thrown around before, supposedly meaning night which matched well with his dark coat.
The scent of other wolves soon caught his attention. There were just so many in these woods, there had to be some sort of pack around here somewhere, which made him nervous.
He remained still, waiting for a response.

| Noticing a slight motion from the corner of her vision, Eden followed the movement. Her eyes widened as a black-coated male stepped from the shadows. It was as if he had materialized from the foliage itself, at one with the hidden spirits of the forest.
“That talent would be a useful one to have…” She thought absentmindedly to herself. In fact, now that she had begun to think about it, she could not shake the feeling. If she wished to make an official claim to this land, she would have to find others willing to join her. She would need to form a pack in order to be strong enough to hold a territory. That was something she would never be able to accomplish on her own. Perhaps it was time for her to give up the lone act, no matter what had happened in the past.
His glowing yellow eyes were locked in her direction, and he stood tensely on his paws. Wishing to de-escalate the tension vibrating through the air, the grey wolf allowed her body to relax slightly. She meant the wolves no harm, and it did not appear that either were prepared to attack at this moment. She would not let her guard down completely, but she also did not want to provoke the strangers in any way.
“Noctis?” She repeated, noticing the slight hesitation in his voice, but choosing to disregard it for the moment. “Well met. I am known as Eden.” She replied lightly. “Do you come from a neighboring pack, or are you traveling as a lone wolf?” The female inquired, an inquisitive spark lighting her amber eyes.

| Soumraku's gaze steadily met the female's; he opened his jaws to respond to her question, but quickly shut his muzzle as another low voice rang out. The fur along his shoulders rose warily, and as the female turned ever so slightly and began to speak to the voice of which he was pretty sure neither knew the location of the speaker, he grumbled, "Balí vlky?"
As he listened to what the she-wolf stated, though, he easily found that the answer was no; she spoke as though she did not know the other wolf. Catching the look she sent his way, he returned it briefly, though otherwise did not acknowledge her words directed to both him and the wolf he could not see; his ear did not twitch, his jaws did not part to respond.
He quickly took notice of movement, gaze swiveling to see that a black-pelted male had stepped from the foliage. His head cocked to one side, eyes blank as he studied the male. They definitely knew how to hide, perhaps even better than he did. Perhaps they'd had a pack to better teach them, whereas Soumraku had had to learn almost everything he knew on his own.
His ears flicked up as he heard the hesitating stutter in the male's voice. Nonexistent brows furrowed ever so slightly, creasing over his eyes as he wondered shortly why they had stuttered. Quickly, though, he focused back on the two strangers as the female spoke, remaining completely silent along with completely still; had they not took notice of him being there before, they likely wouldn't have known he was listening.

| He remained still, lips parting slightly to reply to the female "It is nice to meet you Eden." Even though it would have been more convenient if this she-wolf hadn't gotten in his way he thought it was a good idea to remain polite.
It seemed as though these wolves did not intend to cause him any harm which allowed the male to relax slightly. He paused, wondering if the other wolf nearby would respond but they seemed even quieter than he was. His ears perked towards the sky at the sound of the females next question. Was he from a neighboring pack or a loner?
"I..." he paused. At this point, he was basically making his own persona. He could very easily lie to make these other wolves more wary of him. Perhaps enough that they might just leave him alone. On the other hand, if he said he was from a pack it might make him look like a threat, which could result in violent behavior.
"Why do you ask?" he hesitantly responded with his own question, not really knowing what to say at this point. It would buy him some time to think up a better reply, and perhaps he'd even gain some information on this wolf from it.

| Eden’s facial expression became inquisitive as she tilted her head ever so slightly at Noctis’ question. The mysterious male was avoiding her inquiry entirely, which made her all the more suspicious of him and his presence in the forest. Although, the hesitation could certainly be due to her unknown intentions, so she moved to make them clear.
“Curiosity.” she carefully replied. “The pack of this land is seeking members. I’m sure you would be able to remain here on a trial basis until both the pack and yourself decide that you are a good fit.” the female continued, conveniently leaving out the fact that she was the only current member.
It was clear to her now that she would need to recruit others to join her in this place. She had no desire to leave, but would need the strength that came from numbers to protect her home. However, she was in no rush to gain incompetent or aggressive members in the ranks. The quality of these unknown wolves came to question, and she hoped that having a trial period would allow her the assurance that she was making the correct choice... not to mention to fact that the wolves may not wish to join others in pack life. The last thing she wished was to keep others against their will.
Hearing the low tone of an unfamiliar tongue, Eden’s attention shifted. Her gaze moved back to the dusky-brown wolf, and she stopped to study him for a moment. He was not necessarily large and muscular, but appeared to be more suited for swift and silent movement.
“And your name?” she asked the brute once more. “...Do you speak our language well?” the wolf further questioned after considering his silence.

| "Chytrý," Soumraku whispered, the sound so discreet it was almost unable to be heard. His jaws only opened slightly, making it seem as though the single word had been spoken by a ghost rather than by him. The male was quite interesting, Soumraku decided, and mysterious; rather than responding directly to the female, they provided a question in return. But what had him thinking was if the male really was clever or if they were just wary of the intentions of not only the female, but him as well.
His attention turned to the she-wolf as she responded, eyes shifting over to watch her, carefully considering and internally turning over the words she'd spoken. He decided as well that this Eden, as she called herself, was just as interesting and peculiar as the male who deemed himself Noctis, though Soumraku slightly doubted the name due to the male's hesitation when speaking it. As he pondered this, he almost didn't notice that Eden's attention had shifted to him until she spoke. He remained silent for a few moments, thinking over the questions. When he responded, his voice was quiet, though carried over the cold air enough for both to hear.
"I speak it well enough. My name is Soumraku."

| He cocked his head slightly as the female responded. Now he at least knew her intentions, she was simply recruiting for her pack, which made him ponder for a minute. There was a strange impulse inside of him that wanted to join the pack, yet another warning to stay away. He didn't particularly like aimlessly wandering the lands on his own, but his past experiences made him wary of pack life.
"I haven't had the best experiences with packs in the past" he replied. This time he was being completely honest. "Though I am not completely opposed to trying one out again" he continued. He supposed his response answered the females previous question as well, making it pretty apparent he was on his own.
His attention shifted as the other male finally responded, quietly, though clear enough to make out his reply. He found it interesting that this wolf appeared to speak two languages.

| Eden gave a nod toward the lithe, dusk-pelted male. He studied the one called Noctis first, before turning his gaze upon her.
"He's a very observant one..." she realized after a moment of returning his intense focus. "I wonder if he retains information as well as he appears to be taking it in...." the thought trailed off as she put her reply in order.
"Well met, Soumraku." Eden stated. "The offer would be open to you as well, should you be inclined to take it."
The brute seemed more than capable of holding his own, and if her speculations were correct, the two newcomers would make an exceptional team. She would need to recruit all those who were willing to join her. The strength gained in numbers would help the pack provide for each other, protect against threats, and survive the harshness of the wild. The only thing that truly gave her pause were her leadership capabilities. The fae worried she would not have enough experience to lead the group well and with confidence.
"Only time will tell." she internally realized.
"I haven't had the best experiences with packs in the past. Though I am not completely opposed to trying one out again." Noctis stated.
Eden focused once more on the mysterious black male and felt a twinge of regret for him. She couldn't imagine what experiences he had been through in the past, but she hoped that by giving her offer a try, he would find that not all wolves were unkind. Attempting to ease the tension further, the slight grey female tilted her head before giving the pair a wolfish grin.
"So, what do you say?" | |

| Soumraku's head tipped down in a subtle nod, giving acknowledgement of Eden's words, while he found part of him become lost in his thoughts, at the same time still focusing on the two lupines. Balení… Myslím, že by nebylo příliš špatné rozhodnutí se připojit, he reasoned mentally. Ačkoli to může znamenat, že budu muset mluvit anglicky víc.
His ears twitched as he pulled himself out of his head. His attention turned fully to Eden; watching her with a mixed amount of curiosity and consideration, about as much emotion that could've been spotted in his gaze the whole time.
"Spojení bude skutečně prospěšné pro mě," he mused, this time aloud, though at a low volume. Angličtina, he reminded himself. English.
Though he'd mostly made his decision already, he gave himself more time to think before responding. Joining this pack of hers would be a good decision. He would no longer need to worry about his safety or chances of survival alone. Of course, there were a few negatives--he wasn't too social, and he had many secrets, not all of which were his. Secrets tended to be frowned upon in packs because it separated members. But for Soumraku, secrets held him together. They gave him knowledge, and, as his mother told him and his sister many times before, "Vědění je moc!" Not only that, but they gave him something to think about and stay awake more. They'd also served him well in the past, when he'd traded some of his knowledge for things like food or a temporary place to stay. Without secrets, Soumraku would find himself in internal turmoil.
But as he thought, he supposed that even with such negatives, joining this pack really would be the best decision. Besides, he was pretty sure he'd heard of a rank in most packs that specialized with hidden information, using it to benefit the pack.
When he spoke next, his voice was confident, if not icy and still a bit quiet.
"I will join this pack of yours, Eden."

| He thought for a minute, his mind wandering back to his old pack and how most members were unfairly treated, and even abused. He huffed slightly, shook his head and a worried expression overtook his face. Soon his thoughts fast-forwarded to his life currently. It was true he no longer had the same struggles he had in pack life, but many new troubles had come in their place. Now he had trouble with tasks such as finding food, water, shelter... tasks that were needed to simply survive. His mind was pulled back to the current moment as he heard the other male reply. He was indeed going to join this pack, even without knowing much of anything about it. If there was one thing 46 knew for certain, is that he would need more information before making a decision.
He looked over to Eden and began with a simple question. "How big is this pack you speak of?" He knew he didn't want to be a part of an overpopulated pack like his last one, as that seemed to cause a lot of problems and competition between members, something he did not miss. Perhaps being a part of a smaller pack would be more calm and possibly even family-oriented.
He also liked the idea of this trial the female had spoke of. It would mean if he didn't like the pack, he would not have any obligation to stay until after the trial period was complete.
